Dear Parents/Guardians, Students and Friends of Prospect High School,
Praise from Public
A member of the public rang this week to praise two male Prospect High School students. She said she witnessed the students grab two trolleys that were in a dangerous spot in the carpark at the Prospect Marketplace and they put them safely in the trolley bay. The member of the public said the students did this for no recognition that they were just doing it to be helpful and in full Prospect High uniform. She was very impressed and said it was a very nice look. On behalf of the Prospect High School community thank you to these boys for being so considerate and responsible.
Inter-High Cross Country
On Tuesday Prospect High School participated in the Inter High Cross Country Carnival. All students represented the school with outstanding pride, enthusiasm and commitment to achieve their best.
Overall, Prospect finished 3rd in division 1 which is a very impressive achievement.
Griffin – 2nd Grade 7 Boys
Will – 3rd Grade 8 Boys
Zoey – 1st Grade 9 Girl
Ruby – 2nd Grade 9 Girls
Grade 9 Girls won the Team Pennant.
Congratulations and well done to all who represented Prospect High.
Covid Update
Melbourne is in it’s fourth “short, sharp” lockdown and as the Director of Public Health said Tasmanians are only “one to two days away from a lockdown”. This is a timely reminder for students and family members of Covid protocols that should be followed for everyone’s safety.
Washing and hand sanitizing hands.
Social distancing (1.5m for adults)
Sneezing/coughing into elbows.
Staying at home if feeling unwell and getting a Covid test.
Using the Prospect High School Covid Safe app for visitor check in.
Tour of Honour
While classroom learning is a number one priority at Prospect High School, we endeavour to offer a range of other learning opportunities. One such event was a Tour of Honour Question and Answer session at the Launceston Country Club. Students heard the young Tasmanian of the Year, Toby Thorpe, the Australian of the Year, Grace Tame, as well as Edna Pennicott (2021 Tasmania’s Local Hero), Brian Williams (2021 Tasmanian Senior Australian of the Year), and Graeme Stevenson (2020 Tasmanian Senior Australian of the Year). Students learned about the speakers’ individual stories and successes. Students were also encouraged to be courageous and think of ways to have a positive impact on our community. Thank you to Mr Poke and Ms De Paoli for organising this opportunity for 90 students.

From the café:
The café space continues to change and become a warm and welcoming hub for hands-on learning. In addition to our Grade 9/10 Catering Classes, who are rostered on each week, we have Tier 2 and 3 programs for engagement and Pathways to Work class for Grade 11 and 12. These groups make coffees for staff and also make hot chocolates for students to sell in Recess 1 on Mondays and Tuesdays. On Tuesdays, we have added egg and bacon rolls to the menu which have proved popular on our recent wintery mornings. We have welcomed our Student Leader Board into the space, and they serve hot chocolates and milkshakes to our students on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Our recent Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea was a resounding success due to all these group’s dedication and commitment. We raised $350.00 for this worthy cause.
From the kitchen:
We continue to provide homemade sweet treats for purchase in the café, and this term we have made the Friday canteen specials for students to purchase. Our menu for these was decided by the catering students, and so far the most popular has been the butter chicken. We continue to cater for school events and each Wednesday we have our winter warmer- lunchtime meals for staff served from the slow cooker with a homemade bread roll. Later this term and early next term we will feature our ‘terrific toasties’ in the café. Watch out on Facebook for further details.
Eagle’s Nest Catering team is keen to expand and is available to cater for functions outside the school. Please see the catering menu attached. All our food is made in our council registered kitchen and students are taught and supervised by an experienced chef and teachers. Dietary considerations are catered for in all areas. Please email me if you have any further inquiries:

We will share more in the coming weeks about other exciting café developments!
Adrienne McMahon
Hospitality and Catering Teacher.
On Thursdays in lessons 3 and 4 our textiles room turns into a hive of creativity. Our ‘crafternoon’ is a relaxed, friendly and productive session in which students are encouraged to bring their own style to crafts and fashion. We have made aliens and monsters, created Mother’s Day plant pots, and have recently fired up the sewing machines to create bags, scrunchies, and pillows. We will use recycled garments and fabric remnants to create warm gloves and hats in the coming weeks.
If you have any craft supplies gathering dust please get in touch - we would love to take them off your hands and make them into something crafty!!

On Wednesday 9th, our two grade 9/10 Outdoor Education classes and #Fit class went on an excursion to the Cataract Gorge. We started at school and walked to the Duck Reach power station where we followed the walking track to the Basin. The students showed great resilience, completing a tough 6km walk, and supported each other along the way. Well done to all students involved, the teachers were extremely proud of the great job you did representing our school.
Round 4
The 9/10 Girls in round four hosted Cressy District High School in an encounter that proved to be very competitive and played in great spirit. Unfortunately for Prospect, the girls did not come away with a win. However, the team seemed to have a great time enjoying a game of football on what was a lovely afternoon.
The 7/8 Boys A team had a day out in their first home game of the season against Queechy High School. Final Scores: Prospect 83 - Queechy 16. The team quickly settled and felt right at home as Oscar was lively early in the forward line and finished up with four goals next to his name. Lewis, Henry, Connor and Kane were all showcasing their improvement as they played their best games for the season so far. It was a beautiful day for football and the game was enjoyed by all. The team remain undefeated and are looking forward to their next challenge against the St Patricks College Grade 7 team.

The game was highlighted by a solid defensive performance throughout the entire match which contributed to the Final Scores Prospect 54 Brooks 30. Noah, Solomon, Brayden were the best performers for the day, in what was a very tough and competitive game.

Grade 7
7-5 are learning about forces in Science. We have been experimenting with forces required to move objects. In class, we made marshmallow blasters to determine how the mass of a projectile affects the horizontal distance it travels.
We are now able to identify forces, and how forces affect objects around us. We can also describe what kind of force is acting on an object.
We will continue to focus on these concepts until the end of term. We are really enjoying learning through the practical side of Science. It makes a big difference to our understanding.
