- Leadership and Support Staff 2022
Dear Parents/Guardians, Students and Friends of Prospect High School,
While COVID-19 has to an extent impacted day to day operations at our school over the course of the year, the resilience and commitment of our students and staff has been incredibly impressive, maintaining a clear focus on teaching and learning and continuing to build and enrich our school culture.
This was particularly evident in our whole school assembly last Friday. The first assembly since COVID impacted. The whole school assembly last Friday allowed us to invite family and friends to join us in our whole first school celebration for some time. In fact, it was the first opportunity that our current year 8 students were able to experience in a whole school setting since joining Prospect High School at the beginning of 2021!
The formal celebration and introduction of our Student Leadership Board (SLB), musical items, grade 7-10 academic and effort recognition certificates and sequential large screen images from term one and two highlighting students and staff participating in an array of learning opportunities both in and out of the classroom and extra curricular passions and interests were showcased. The intent listening and viewing from our audience highlights the fact that celebrating achievements has a significant impact on building community culture! We are very pleased that this part of our school community is slowly and safely being reintroduced! A huge ‘shout out’ to the families and friends that supported our assembly. Please see the gallery below for some photographs.
Once again, the willingness of our staff to support these activities and provide a multitude of activities ‘beyond the classroom’ for your children is greatly appreciated.
Uniform Reminder:
As always, it is fantastic to see Prospect High School students proudly wearing our school uniform. Our school community takes great pride in our uniform – to uphold high expectations we have been reminding students of our schools uniform policy. We encourage families to review our uniform policy. Here is a snip of the key points in our uniform policy. The full policy can be found on our school website.
Payment at the School Canteen:
We also wish to remind students to pay by cash, card or order their lunch via the QKR app at our school canteen. We request students don’t pay by phone – students will be unable to pay by phone or smart watch from the start of Term 4.
A quick reminder if you have not already, please follow us on Facebook:
This is one way we share some of the great things that are happening at Prospect High School on a regular basis, along with using it as a forum to send out reminders for upcoming events. If you have not already liked/followed our page, please do so, this will allow us to share our story with you as it happens.
Kind regards
Lee Barker

Prospect High School Artz Bazaar and Raffle
In Week 9 (Tuesday 20th September), Prospect High School will be hosting our major whole school arts celebration event… The Prospect High School Arts Bazaar! In this evening event, we will celebrate the work of students in the creative arts across grades 7-12 in Visual Art, Dance, Drama and our Tier 2 creative classes.
Visitors will enter via The Eagles Nest Café and the evening will begin with a visual arts gallery and live musical performances. As visitors make their way towards the Drama/Dance Studio, they will then enter a ‘Bazaar’ market style event, where students who have engaged in Tier 2 classes will have the opportunity to display and sell their ‘wares’ and to hold stalls and activities (we will advertise these closer to the event!). For a bit of fun, this year’s Arts Evening will be themed around ‘Aladdin and Arabian Nights’ – so bring the family and bring your ‘gold’! (Cash only sales.)
For the first time, this event will include the drawing of our BIG Arts Raffle, with a Prize Pool of just under $500 donated by local businesses! The prizes include: Two VIP tickets to Encore Theatre Company’s Jersey Boys in October at the Princess Theatre, a voucher to Paint the Town Red, a ukulele, kindly donated by Barrett’s Music, an art pack featuring over $130 worth of art products from Pearts Variety Store, artwork by a local artist inspired by Aladdin, and a Hamper of Middle-Eastern themed goodies put together by the Catering and Hands-On Hospitality Classes. A BIG thank you to the businesses who have supported us.
Next week we will begin selling raffle tickets. These will be available from the school office to purchase separately, or you can elect to take home a book of 10 to sell. We will be inviting all families of students involved in the Production and Arts Evening to take home a book of 10 raffle tickets to sell ($2 each, or 3 for $5), with a reminder that those purchasing tickets should be 18 years or older. Books will need to be returned to the office by Monday 19th September. There will also be sales at the Arts Evening before the draw at 5:50pm. If you do not wish to sell tickets, please return the book to the school office. Funds will be going towards the costs of mounting the production including costumes, venue, equipment and personnel hire and licencing fees. As this is a school show, ticket prices to see the actual production have been kept low and the production is a non-profit event.
The Arts Bazaar will culminate in formal performances of Dance, Drama and Musical Items in the Drama/Dance Studio from approximately 6pm-7:30pm. These performances will include items for the Launceston Competitions, Rock Challenge, in-class projects and out of school endeavours. Most excitingly, it will also include some sneak-previews of Aladdin characters and a dance item from our show in November! Due to safety precautions, seating will be limited for the formal performances in the studio. All performers in the studio will be given 2 tickets for their families. If you require more, please contact the office when the tickets are released (we will give good notice before we release them). The tickets will be free to this event, as their only purpose is to enable us to adhere to COVID-19 safety guidelines. The room will have cooling and be well-ventilated.
So… get on your flying carpet and join us at the Prospect High School Arts Bazaar! We look forward to seeing many of our families there to celebrate the students in this informal event!

Babkak (One of Aladdin’s three pals)
- Why did you want to be involved in this production?
I have always had a strong interest in musical theatre, so when I saw that Prospect was going to be putting on a production I signed up as soon as I could.
- Who is your favourite character and why?
My favourite Aladdin Jr character is actually Omar (another of Aladdin’s friends). I greatly admire their ability to stand up for their friends, even when they’re afraid. Their loyalty to their friends is such a good quality, and it has been so cool to see them brought to life on stage alongside my character.
- What is your role in this production and what are you enjoying about it?
I play Babkak, who is one of Aladdin’s three friends. I love being able to bring my interpretation of him to life and being able to be on stage with the rest of Aladdin’s little gang has been an amazing experience so far. Babkak is a kind of character that can be seen as one dimensional, so having the opportunity to give more character to him with the way I move, speak, and interact with the other people on stage, has been really fun.
- What’s the biggest challenge been for you so far?
The biggest challenge for me so far was to be able to be onstage and perform in front of other people in general, due to struggling with anxiety. Being able to work with the other onstage members of the production took a while to get used to and be able to do easily, but I would say that the longer I work with these people, the easier it becomes.
- What are you most excited for?
I am extremely excited to perform the production to the public in November. Everyone who is working on the production, both onstage and offstage, has been putting in so much effort to make this production the best that it can be, and I can’t wait to see what the finished product is going to be like.
- What’s been the most enjoyable thing about production so far?
This is honestly a really hard question to answer, as I have enjoyed everything that we have done so far, but I would have to say being able to do my scenes with the people playing Omar and Kassim. I couldn’t think of anyone else as Aladdin’s two other friends, and being able to work with them has been great.
- What would you say to people who want to be involved in production in future years?
Being in a production doesn’t mean that you must be onstage acting. If you want to join but don’t want to be onstage, you don’t have to be. You have the option to be a part of the team working on the props, costumes, set, lighting, publicity and more. You can even be a part of the band if that is what your heart so desires.
Ava has been selected to represent Tasmania at the prestigious Pizzey Cup- National Secondary Schools Championships for tennis. The event takes place in Perth from the 27th August- 3rd September. A big congratulations on this achievement. We wish Ava all the best.
Congratulations Jamisen and Millie!
On Thursday 18th August, the Grade 8 Drama Class were fortunate enough to see Stage Right Theatre perform The Lion King at the Princess Theatre.
The show was an amazing spectacular featuring strong vocals, dance and acting from the ensemble of young performers. It was an absolute treat to watch, and we are so proud of our two students, Jamisen (Gr 9) and Millie (Gr 10) who were part of it! Well done!
Next week on Friday 26th August, the SLB and Production class will be hosting an in-school, lunchtime barbecue, concert and karaoke event in the Grade 7 Courtyard. There will be sausages, vegie burgers and Disney themed cupcakes, all for $2.00, with all proceeds going towards mounting our Production of Aladdin Jr in Term 4. (Students - please remember, cash only sales)
A BIG thank you to BAXTERS IGA PROSPECT for their generous donation towards this event, and to Mrs McMahon’s catering class for providing the cupcakes. We would also like to give a big shout out and applause to our ‘graphic designer’ Grade 9 student Luca, who is responsible for the amazing BBQ and Production posters!!
