Dear Parents/Carers, Students and Friends of Prospect High School,
Presentation Assembly
Congratulations to all recipients of awards at the Celebration Assembly held last Friday afternoon in the Prospect High School gymnasium. This was an opportunity to celebrate and recognise cultural, academic, citizenship, sporting and leadership achievements of individuals and recognise every Grade 10 student as a much-valued member of our school. After the assembly we were treated to an amazing selection of refreshments prepared by our catering team. Congratulations also to all involved in organising and delivering the assembly and preparing food. Musical performances were outstanding. Thank you to guests, parents and family members and staff who attended. Thanks also to sponsors for donation of prizes.
Grade 10 Celebration Dinner
Grade 10 students and staff enjoyed the Celebration Dinner held on Monday night at the Country Club Casino. The graduates or should I say young ladies and men looked stunning and enjoyed the food, music and dancing. The Grade 10 graduates have had four great years at Prospect High School and made close friendships, some of which will be life-long friendships. I would like to acknowledge the hard work and creativity that went into the preparation of this evening. The decorations and table settings looked amazing and students looked stunning. 2022 Key Dates
After a really busy year in Drama, we have been finishing up the year by having a play with some historical forms of theatre. In Grade 8 we studied Greek Theatre. The students created and wore masks and performed using presentational style acting. We presented scenes out on the oval to simulate the large, ancient Greek amphitheatres where the first formal performances were presented around 2500 years ago. In 9/10 Drama we experimented with another form of theatre that required large, presentational style acting – Elizabethan Theatre. After having a play with some Shakespearean insults (Shakespeare wrote the best insults!) we workshopped the thumb biting scene from Romeo and Juliet as well as the scene where Capulet attempts to force Juliet to his will. In Playbuilding we decided to spend the last couple of lessons making up a Christmas play, our hashed together experiment included naughty reindeer at reindeer school, a sleepy Santa, naughty elf, missing Rudolph and a crafty Grinch. The students were challenged to make their play pre-school friendly with lots of gags, fast-paced action, dancing and audience involvement – such a shame that we ran out to time to present this fun little piece!
I have really enjoyed working with all of the drama students this year, 7-10. Next year we have a really big year ahead with our Prospect High School major production Aladdin Jr! Exciting times ahead, until then, happy and safe holidays from Drama!
Mrs Viney
On the 6th of December the 9/10 Child Studies class held their Christmas themed playgroup for ages 0-5. At this play group we offered numerous enjoyable play-based activities such as: bon-bon making, Christmas tree hand painting, bauble decorating, reindeer food making, a snack table for those feeling peckish, and a Santa Claus photo corner. Students had the chance to independently work one on one with the children, ensuing a very memorable and fun experience. This playgroup was the class’ third and final playgroup of the year and was a huge success, with endless giggles, smiles and happy faces!
We would like to acknowledge and thank our amazing school Chaplain, Lachie Unwin, for his incredibly generous and kind donation of his piano. This will be a wonderful addition to our music department, providing further learning opportunities for our students. Thank you Lachie!
